espresso-oak-herringbone-engineered-wood-flooring
Espresso Oak 90mm Engineered Herringbone

Espresso Oak is a very dark brown herringbone, named for the colour of strong coffee. The 90mm blocks have a 4mm real oak top layer on a 15mm multi-ply build.

Look and character

The tone is dark brown, deep and rich, with the grain showing through as slightly lighter lines. A lacquered finish seals the colour and makes the floor simple to clean. Classic grade oak gives some knots and natural variation, which adds depth to such a strong colour. Espresso works with crisp white walls, brass fittings and velvet or leather furniture, and it makes a herringbone pattern stand out.

Construction and specification

The build is 15mm in total, made up of a 4mm layer of real oak over cross-laid plywood. A multi-ply base gives a more stable floor than solid oak of the same look, and that matters in a pattern where every joint is on show. 4mm of real oak is a generous figure for engineered flooring and allows for future refinishing. At 90mm wide and 400mm long, the blocks sit in the middle of the herringbone range: detailed enough to look like parquet, broad enough to show the grain. A 4V bevel puts a small chamfer on all four edges, so every block is outlined and the pattern reads crisply. A pack covers 1.872 m² of floor.

Where it works

Herringbone runs well from room to room, so it can link a hall, kitchen and living space in one pattern. You can lay it in hallways, living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, conservatories and kitchens, and carry it on up the stairs. In a kitchen, mop up spills promptly, as real oak is not waterproof. If you are continuing up the stairs, choose matching stair nosing for the tread edges.
