invisible-oak-versailles-panel-engineered-wood-flooring
Invisible Oak Engineered Versailles Panel

Invisible Oak is a Versailles panel floor that keeps oak looking light and close to its natural state. The 800mm square panels are 15mm thick, with a 4mm real oak top layer on a multi-ply base.

Look and character

The colour is light natural oak, with no obvious stain. The invisible oiled finish is chosen to add very little colour, so the grain and pattern look fresh and raw while the surface is still protected. Classic grade oak brings some knots and variation across the interlaced strips. It is a softer, more relaxed take on Versailles that suits bright living rooms and modern period conversions.

Construction and specification

The build is 15mm in total, made up of a 4mm layer of real oak over cross-laid plywood. Cross-laid layers resist the swelling and shrinking that solid wood is prone to, which helps the joints stay tight. There is enough oak in a 4mm layer for a professional sand and refinish if the surface ever looks tired. Laid as 800 x 800mm squares, the panels build up the framed, criss-cross Versailles pattern long associated with grand period rooms. Micro-bevelled edges keep the joins discreet, letting the pattern rather than the gaps do the work. Packs cover 2.16 m² each.

Where it works

You can lay it in hallways, living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, conservatories and kitchens. It is not waterproof, so in kitchens wipe up spills quickly. In a period house the panels look right; in a plain modern room they become the main feature.
