pale-oak-herringbone-engineered-wood-flooring
Pale Oak 90mm Engineered Herringbone

Pale Oak is a light, soft-beige herringbone from the Heritage range, in 90mm blocks. It is engineered, 15mm thick, with a 4mm real oak top layer.

Look and character

The tone is light with a gentle beige cast, softer and less yellow than a natural oak. A lacquered finish seals the surface, which keeps a pale floor easy to clean. Classic grade oak brings some knots and natural variation. It brightens hallways and living rooms and sits well with cream, grey or soft green walls.

Construction and specification

In 15/4mm terms, 15mm is how thick the whole block is and 4mm is the depth of real oak on its face. A 4mm top layer leaves a good depth of oak for sanding and refinishing later on. A multi-ply base gives a more stable floor than solid oak of the same look, and that matters in a pattern where every joint is on show. At 90mm wide and 400mm long, the blocks sit in the middle of the herringbone range: detailed enough to look like parquet, broad enough to show the grain. A 4V bevel puts a small chamfer on all four edges, so every block is outlined and the pattern reads crisply. Each pack covers 1.872 m².

Where it works

It is listed for kitchens, conservatories, hallways, bedrooms, dining rooms and living rooms, as well as stairs. On stairs, finish each tread with stair nosing. Start the pattern from the room's main sight line, often the doorway, so the zigzag runs where it is seen most. Kitchens are fine as long as spills are wiped up, because real oak is not waterproof. Our flooring underlay range covers floating installations. Herringbone involves more cutting than a straight plank floor, so add about 10% to your measured area for cuts and waste.
