worn-antique-oak-herringbone-engineered-wood-flooring
Worn Antique Oak 70mm Engineered Herringbone

With its aged brown tones and blackened bevels, Worn Antique Oak recreates the look of a well-loved old parquet floor. The 70mm blocks sit on a 20mm engineered build with a 5mm real oak top layer.

Look and character

The colour is a medium, warm brown, with golden and darker aged variation between blocks. Rustic grade oak shows knots, mineral marks and grain changes, all part of its antique character. Brushing and an oiled finish give a textured, natural surface with no plastic sheen. The dark bevels trace each block, so the herringbone outline stands out, much as it does on an old reclaimed floor.

Construction and specification

In 20/5mm terms, 20mm is how thick the whole block is and 5mm is the depth of real oak on its face. 5mm is a thick wear surface for engineered wood, so there is plenty of real oak to sand back and refinish if it ever needs a refresh. That engineered core is what keeps the floor steady when the air in the room gets drier or more humid through the year. Small 70 x 350mm blocks give a detailed pattern with lots of joints, which is what makes classic parquet look the way it does. The 4V bevelled edges give each block a fine shadow line on all four sides. Packs cover 0.735 m² each.

Where it works

Herringbone runs well from room to room, so it can link a hall, kitchen and living space in one pattern. It is listed for kitchens, conservatories, hallways, bedrooms, dining rooms and living rooms, as well as stairs. On stairs, finish each tread with stair nosing. In a kitchen, mop up spills promptly, as real oak is not waterproof.

Fitting and underfloor heating

Fit it with tongue and groove joints, either floating on a suitable underlay or fully glued down. If you float it, choose a suitable flooring underlay first. The floor is suitable for use with underfloor heating, like the rest of our underfloor heating flooring.
