We decided to lay our own flooring… and honestly I’m OBSESSED 😍
Part 4 of our living room makeover and this week it’s all about the flooring.
AD - We went for the Riviera Invisible Oak Herringbone Engineered Wood Flooring from @flooringsurgeons and she is gorgoeus! They have such a great selection to choose from so deciding on the right one was a close call!
It took us 4 days to prep, undercut, and lay this flooring in both the hallway and landing and we still have the kitchen left to do - so wish us luck 🙈

What a DIY journey our hallway has been on and the one thing I WISH I did sooner was update our flooring.
What a difference! This is Riviera Invisible Oak Herringbone Engineered Wood Flooring from @flooringsurgeons .
One of the biggest factors in our decision was the sheer variety of flooring options available. After ordering plenty of samples, we finally settled on engineered oak and it’s been the perfect choice.
It gives you that solid wood look, but at a fraction of the price, works brilliantly with underfloor heating and the quality is amazing.
The customer service team were always on hand to help with any questions, and even jumped on a call with us to support the installation, sharing loads of really helpful tips, making laying this ourselves so much easier.
I can’t recommend them enough.

Honestly the best decision we’ve made…
It’s completely transformed the look and feel of our ground floor. The quality of the flooring is amazing and it’s easier to lay than you think.
My top tips would be:
1: Use a plumb line at the beginning to make sure you’re laying the first runs completely straight.
2: Start by laying your runs and come back and fill in later.
3: Expect it to take longer than you thought. Lay in sets of 6 at a time. Dry lay the planks and draw around them to create a glue guide.
4: Invest in a good quality miter saw - mine is from @ryobitoolsuk - it has a lazer for precision cutting and makes life so much easier.
Here are a list of items we used:
1: Flooring pull bar
2: Tapping block
3: Plastic wedges
4: 6mm notched adhesive trowel
5: Frog tape
6: No more nails for the thresholds & trims
4: Rubber mallet
5: multitool to undercut door frames and end panels.
6: Miter saw.
7: Soudal Parquet flooring Adhesive

What happens during an in-home consultation?
One of our flooring experts will visit your home to discuss your project, inspect the space, take accurate measurements if required, and answer any questions you have. We’ll also help you choose the flooring that’s best suited to your home and lifestyle.
Can you bring flooring samples to my home?
Yes. We can bring 2–3 large flooring samples to your appointment, allowing you to see how different colours and finishes look in your own space and natural lighting before making a decision.
How do I book an in-home consultation?
Simply contact our team to arrange an appointment. Our in-home consultation service is currently available across the West Midlands only. Once we’ve confirmed your location, we’ll arrange a convenient date and time with one of our flooring experts.
Is there a charge for an in-home consultation?
Our in-home consultations are free and there’s no obligation to purchase.
Do I need to prepare anything before my appointment?
Please make sure the areas to be measured are easily accessible. During your visit, our flooring expert will inspect your space, take precise measurements, confirm that your chosen flooring is suitable for your home, and answer any final questions you may have before preparing your personalised quotation.
Will I receive a quotation after the consultation?
Yes. After inspecting your space and discussing your requirements, we’ll prepare a personalised quotation based on the flooring you’ve selected and the measurements taken during the visit. We aim to send your quotation on the same day or, where possible, by the next working day.
What happens after my consultation?
Once your consultation is complete, we’ll provide your tailored quotation and guide you through the next steps. If you need more time to decide, we can also arrange for samples to be left with you or ordered so you can compare them in your home before making a final decision.
