Part 4 of our living room makeover and this week it’s all about the flooring.

It took us 4 days to prep, undercut, and lay this flooring in both the hallway and landing and we still have the kitchen left to do - so wish us luck 🙈

What a DIY journey our hallway has been on and the one thing I WISH I did sooner was update our flooring.

One of the biggest factors in our decision was the sheer variety of flooring options available. After ordering plenty of samples, we finally settled on engineered oak and it’s been the perfect choice.
It gives you that solid wood look, but at a fraction of the price, works brilliantly with underfloor heating and the quality is amazing.
The customer service team were always on hand to help with any questions, and even jumped on a call with us to support the installation, sharing loads of really helpful tips, making laying this ourselves so much easier.

Honestly the best decision we’ve made…
It’s completely transformed the look and feel of our ground floor. The quality of the flooring is amazing and it’s easier to lay than you think.
My top tips would be:
1: Use a plumb line at the beginning to make sure you’re laying the first runs completely straight.
2: Start by laying your runs and come back and fill in later.
3: Expect it to take longer than you thought. Lay in sets of 6 at a time. Dry lay the planks and draw around them to create a glue guide.
4: Invest in a good quality miter saw - mine is from @ryobitoolsuk - it has a lazer for precision cutting and makes life so much easier.
Here are a list of items we used:
1: Flooring pull bar
2: Tapping block
3: Plastic wedges
4: 6mm notched adhesive trowel
5: Frog tape
6: No more nails for the thresholds & trims
4: Rubber mallet
5: multitool to undercut door frames and end panels.
6: Miter saw.

Engineered wood gives you a real oak surface on a stable core. Solid wood is oak all the way through. Laminate is hard-wearing and easy on the budget. Click and glue-down LVT are waterproof, which makes them a natural choice for kitchens, bathrooms and homes with pets.

Flooring delivery is free to mainland England on orders over £500 (£55 below that). Delivery to Wales is £95 and to selected areas of Scotland £145 per order, whatever the order value – the free delivery threshold applies to mainland England only. Order by 2pm – most orders are available for delivery from 3 working days after placing your order, and you choose your preferred date in the basket (Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays). Samples always ship free and don't count towards the £500. Full delivery charges.
Multiply the length and width of the room in metres to get the area in m². We recommend ordering an extra 5–10% to allow for cuts, waste, and future repairs – for more complex room layouts, additional wastage may be required. Divide by the pack size shown on the product page and round up. The calculator on each floor's page does this for you.
Many of our floors are suitable for underfloor heating, but it depends on the floor and on your heating system. Check the underfloor heating details on each product page, browse our floors for underfloor heating, or call us and we'll confirm before you order.
