Double Smoked Oak sets deep smoked tones into sharp, V-shaped chevron rows. The engineered boards are 90mm wide, with a 3mm real oak surface on a multi-ply base.
The colour is dark and smoky, with deep brown tones running through the grain. Brushing emphasises the timber texture, and the lacquered finish seals it so the surface is easy to clean. Classic grade oak brings some knots and variation, which stops a very dark floor from looking flat. Against white or pale walls, a dark chevron makes a confident, graphic statement.
Unlike herringbone, where rectangular blocks overlap, the 90mm by 510mm chevron boards meet at a mitred point and line up in straight rows of Vs. Bevels on all four edges (4V) frame each board and help the geometry stand out. Under the 3mm real oak surface sits a multi-ply base, bringing each board to 14mm in total. The 3mm layer is a common, practical depth for engineered oak, and a fitter can usually give it a light sand in the future. That engineered core is what keeps the floor steady when the air in the room gets drier or more humid through the year. Packs cover 1.836 m² each.
Think about which way the arrows will point; most people run them along the longest view in the room. Use it through the main living spaces, bedrooms, the hallway, kitchen and conservatory, and on stairs. On stairs, finish each tread with stair nosing. Compare other chevron floors in engineered wood to weigh up sizes and colours. In a kitchen, mop up spills promptly, as real oak is not waterproof.
The tongue and groove boards can be floated or glued down, depending on your subfloor. Allow roughly 10% extra for cutting and waste when you work out how many packs you need. If you float it, choose a suitable flooring underlay first. Cover the expansion gap at the walls with scotia beading. It is suitable for underfloor heating.
Double Smoked Oak will look different in your light than on a screen, so order a large free sample first. You can have up to 3 large free samples, or visit our Halesowen showroom to see floors in person.
This product features a Tongue & Groove installation system. It can be floated over an underlay or fully bonded to the subfloor.
