Raw Unfinished Oak Engineered Versailles Panel

Raw Unfinished Oak Versailles panels arrive as bare oak, ready for you to choose the final colour and finish. Each 800mm square panel is 20mm thick, with a 4mm real oak top layer.

Look and character

Untreated, the oak is light and natural, with its grain and tone fully on show. Once fitted, the panels can be oiled, lacquered or stained to suit your room, from a pale natural look to a deep, dark shade. Classic grade oak includes some knots and variation across the interlaced strips. It is ideal for designers and renovators who want to match existing joinery or create their own colour.

Construction and specification

Laid as 800 x 800mm squares, the panels build up the framed, criss-cross Versailles pattern long associated with grand period rooms. Micro-bevelled edges keep the joins discreet, letting the pattern rather than the gaps do the work. In 20/4mm terms, 20mm is how thick the whole panel is and 4mm is the depth of real oak on its face. 4mm of real oak is a generous figure for engineered flooring and allows for future refinishing. Engineering the board this way keeps it flatter and more stable than a solid block of the same size. A pack covers 2.56 m² of floor.

Where it works

You can lay it in hallways, living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, conservatories and kitchens. In a period house the panels look right; in a plain modern room they become the main feature. Fitting and underfloor heating

Installation is tongue and groove, and your fitter can choose a floating or glue-down method. For a floating fit, start with the right underlay for wood floors. It can be used over underfloor heating, and you'll find other options in our underfloor heating flooring collection. As an unfinished floor, it must be sealed with your chosen oil, lacquer or stain once installed. Order about 10% more than the measured area to allow for cuts at the edges. Matching scotia beading neatens the join at the skirting.
