Smoked Washed Grey Oak layers a grey wash over smoked oak for a moody, modern herringbone. The 90mm blocks are 12mm thick with a 1.2mm real oak veneer, an affordable way to get the look.
The overall tone is dark, but a whitish-grey wash softens the smoked colour and brings out the grain. Brushing adds texture and the UV oiled finish keeps the surface natural and matt. Classic grade oak includes some knots and variation. It suits contemporary homes with grey, white and black schemes.
A 90mm width with a 400mm length gives a balanced zigzag, less busy than small-block parquet and less bold than the wide formats. The 12/1.2mm figures describe two parts of the same block: 12mm is the full thickness, and 1.2mm of that is the real oak top layer you see and walk on. Because the plies run in alternating directions, the blocks move far less than solid timber as the heating comes on and the seasons change. A 1.2mm oak veneer suits rooms where you want the look and feel of timber at a lower cost; it isn't designed for heavy sanding. Bevels on all four edges (4V) frame each block and help the geometry stand out. Each pack covers 2.16 m².
Use it through the main living spaces, bedrooms, the hallway, kitchen and conservatory, and on stairs. Kitchens are fine as long as spills are wiped up, because real oak is not waterproof. Herringbone runs well from room to room, so it can link a hall, kitchen and living space in one pattern. See more engineered oak herringbone floors if you want to compare. For a staircase, pair it with our stair nosing for a neat edge on every tread.
Installation is tongue and groove, and your fitter can choose a floating or glue-down method. For a floating fit, start with the right underlay for wood floors. It can be used over underfloor heating, and you'll find other options in our underfloor heating flooring collection. Scotia beading gives a tidy finish where the floor meets the skirting. Herringbone involves more cutting than a straight plank floor, so add about 10% to your measured area for cuts and waste.
Screens can't show texture or sheen properly, so a large free sample of Smoked Washed Grey Oak is the best way to judge it. You can have 3 large free samples, and you are welcome at our Halesowen showroom, 214a Dudley Road.
This product features a Tongue & Groove installation system. It can be floated over an underlay or fully bonded to the subfloor.
