Fairlight Oak combines pale oak with the fine detail of small-block parquet. Its 80mm blocks are just 10mm thick, including a 3mm real oak top layer, which helps where finished floor height needs careful planning.
The colour is light and natural, with a soft tone that doesn't lean yellow. The invisible smooth oiled finish is meant to keep the timber looking natural; it is finished, not bare, and the surface is smooth to the touch. Classic grade oak shows some grain and tonal differences from block to block. The result is a quiet, light herringbone that suits bedrooms and living rooms, painted cabinetry and neutral fabrics.
Small 80 x 300mm blocks give a detailed pattern with lots of joints, which is what makes classic parquet look the way it does. Each block is 10mm thick overall, with a 3mm real oak top layer bonded to a multi-ply base. Cross-laid layers resist the swelling and shrinking that solid wood is prone to, which helps the joints stay tight. 3mm of real oak gives you the grain and feel of timber, with scope for a careful professional sand later on. A 2V bevel, on the long edges only, gives a softer outline than a four-sided bevel. Each pack covers 0.96 m².
Laid lengthways down a hallway, a herringbone draws the eye through the space. It is listed for kitchens, conservatories, hallways, bedrooms, dining rooms and living rooms, as well as stairs. In a kitchen, mop up spills promptly, as real oak is not waterproof. For a staircase, pair it with our stair nosing for a neat edge on every tread. Our engineered oak herringbone floors include more colours and sizes to compare.
Fit it with tongue and groove joints, either floating on a suitable underlay or fully glued down. Order about 10% more than the measured area to allow for cuts at the edges. Our flooring underlay range covers floating installations. Matching scotia beading neatens the join at the skirting. It is suitable for underfloor heating.
Colour and grain vary from block to block, so it pays to see Fairlight Oak at home before you buy. Order up to 3 large free samples, or call us on 0121 274 8575 and we can help you choose.
This product features a Tongue & Groove installation system. It can be floated over an underlay or fully bonded to the subfloor.
