Walden Oak is a rich, darker natural oak laid in small 80mm herringbone blocks. It is a slim engineered floor, 10mm thick, with a 3mm real oak top layer.
The tone is dark natural oak, deep and warm without a heavy stained look. Rustic grade oak brings knots and grain variation, so the pattern feels characterful and handmade. Brushing adds texture, and the lacquer seals the surface for easy care. It gives a room a grounded, traditional feel that suits period homes and cosy living rooms.
The 10/3mm figures describe two parts of the same block: 10mm is the full thickness, and 3mm of that is the real oak top layer you see and walk on. A 3mm oak layer can be lightly sanded and refinished by a professional if the surface ever needs refreshing. Engineering the board this way keeps it flatter and more stable than a solid block of the same size. Small 80 x 300mm blocks give a detailed pattern with lots of joints, which is what makes classic parquet look the way it does. With a 2V bevel on the long sides, the zigzag lines are defined but the floor still looks fairly flush. A pack covers 0.96 m² of floor.
It is suitable for living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, hallways, kitchens and conservatories, and it can be used on stairs too. It is not waterproof, so in kitchens wipe up spills quickly. In a hallway the zigzag leads you through the house; in a dining room it frames the table. Our engineered herringbone floors include more colours and sizes to compare. On stairs, finish each tread with stair nosing.
Fit it with tongue and groove joints, either floating on a suitable underlay or fully glued down. A floating installation needs a good flooring underlay underneath. Add around 10% to the room size to cover cuts and waste. Underfloor heating is fine with this floor; browse more underfloor heating flooring if you are comparing. Cover the expansion gap at the walls with scotia beading.
