Chestnut Oak is a deep, earthy brown herringbone in 90mm blocks, with a thick 18mm build and 4mm of real oak on top. It suits anyone who wants a warm, dark floor with plenty of timber character.
The colour is a dark, warm brown in the spirit of a ripe chestnut, with earthy tones that shift from block to block. Brushing lifts the grain so you can feel it underfoot, and the UV oiled finish gives a natural, low-sheen look. Classic grade oak has some knots and variation, but it is calmer than a rustic board. The warm brown works with cream and stone colours, deep green paint and leather furniture.
The 90 x 400mm block is a classic herringbone size that works in small rooms and open-plan spaces alike. Each block is 18mm thick overall, with a 4mm real oak top layer bonded to a multi-ply base. Because the plies run in alternating directions, the blocks move far less than solid timber as the heating comes on and the seasons change. There is enough oak in a 4mm layer for a professional sand and refinish if the surface ever looks tired. A 4V bevel puts a small chamfer on all four edges, so every block is outlined and the pattern reads crisply. A pack covers 1.44 m² of floor.
Herringbone runs well from room to room, so it can link a hall, kitchen and living space in one pattern. Use it through the main living spaces, bedrooms, the hallway, kitchen and conservatory, and on stairs. On stairs, finish each tread with stair nosing. Browse our engineered oak herringbone floors to see it next to other colours. Like any real oak floor it isn't waterproof, so keep standing water off it in the kitchen.
Installation is tongue and groove, and your fitter can choose a floating or glue-down method. A floating installation needs a good flooring underlay underneath. It is suitable for underfloor heating; see our underfloor heating flooring for more options. Matching scotia beading neatens the join at the skirting. Order about 10% more than the measured area to allow for cuts at the edges.
Screens can't show texture or sheen properly, so a large free sample of Chestnut Oak is the best way to judge it. You can have 3 large free samples, and you are welcome at our Halesowen showroom, 214a Dudley Road.
This product features a Tongue & Groove installation system. It can be floated over an underlay or fully bonded to the subfloor.
