This is the heavier Pale Invisible Oak: an 18mm engineered herringbone with a 4mm real oak top layer and 90mm blocks. It pairs a light, raw-oak colour with a more substantial build.
Its colour is pale and natural, with soft oak tones and visible grain. The invisible lacquered finish is made to keep the surface looking untreated and matt while sealing it. Classic grade oak brings some knots and variation. It suits people who want a light Scandinavian look with the solid feel of a thicker floor.
The 90 x 400mm block is a classic herringbone size that works in small rooms and open-plan spaces alike. The 18/4mm figures describe two parts of the same block: 18mm is the full thickness, and 4mm of that is the real oak top layer you see and walk on. Because the plies run in alternating directions, the blocks move far less than solid timber as the heating comes on and the seasons change. A 4mm top layer leaves a good depth of oak for sanding and refinishing later on. Bevels on all four edges (4V) frame each block and help the geometry stand out. A pack covers 1.44 m² of floor.
In a hallway the zigzag leads you through the house; in a dining room it frames the table. It is suitable for living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, hallways, kitchens and conservatories, and it can be used on stairs too. In a kitchen, mop up spills promptly, as real oak is not waterproof. On stairs, finish each tread with stair nosing. Compare other herringbone engineered wood floors to weigh up sizes and colours.
Installation is tongue and groove, and your fitter can choose a floating or glue-down method. A floating installation needs a good flooring underlay underneath. Herringbone involves more cutting than a straight plank floor, so add about 10% to your measured area for cuts and waste. Underfloor heating is fine with this floor; browse more underfloor heating flooring if you are comparing. Matching scotia beading neatens the join at the skirting.
Screens can't show texture or sheen properly, so a large free sample of Pale Invisible Oak is the best way to judge it. You can have 3 large free samples, and you are welcome at our Halesowen showroom, 214a Dudley Road.
This product features a Tongue & Groove installation system. It can be floated over an underlay or fully bonded to the subfloor.
