Double Smoked Oak 190mm Engineered Plank

Double Smoked Oak is smoked twice for a deeper, darker colour than a standard smoked board. It comes as a 190mm Nevada engineered plank in random lengths, sealed with lacquer for an easy-care surface.

Look and character

Smoking reacts with the natural tannins in oak to darken it into the fibres, and a second pass pushes the colour further, towards a rich dark brown with smoky, almost grey undertones. The grain shows as fine darker lines, and colour varies naturally from board to board, which adds depth across the room. Classic grade oak keeps knots small, so the floor looks rich and even rather than rugged. The lacquer gives a smooth finish with a gentle sheen that brings out the depth of the smoke. It suits dramatic living rooms, dining rooms lit by lamps and candles, and modern spaces with pale walls and metal accents.

Construction and specification

The board is 14mm thick overall, and the top 3mm is real oak. The core is multi-ply, with layers running in opposite directions so the board stays flat through the seasons. It comes 190mm wide in mixed lengths, packed to cover 2.888 m² per pack. The long edges are bevelled (2V), so you see the long lines of the boards while the ends butt up tight. Being lacquered, the surface is sealed and low-maintenance: sweep, then clean with a damp, well-wrung mop.

Where it works

It is at home in hallways, living rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms, and works in kitchens and conservatories with a little care. Carrying the floor up the staircase is possible; use stair nosing to finish the tread edges neatly.

Fitting and underfloor heating

You can glue it down or lay it floating; the tongue and groove edges join each board to the next. Allow roughly 10% extra on top of your measured area for cutting and waste.
