Espresso Oak 150mm Engineered Plank

Espresso Oak is a dark coffee-brown engineered plank from our Heritage range. The 150mm boards come in random lengths with a brushed, matt-lacquered surface, giving a rich colour without shine.

Look and character

Its colour is close to strong black coffee: a deep brown with a hint of smoke, dark enough to feel dramatic but still clearly wood. Brushing brings out the texture of the grain, and the matt lacquer protects it while keeping reflections low, so the floor looks velvety rather than glossy. Classic grade oak adds small knots and gentle variation. The traditional width and random lengths give a classic board pattern, which stops such a dark floor feeling heavy. It works well with cream or white walls, pale rugs and brass or black metal fittings.

Construction and specification

Boards are 150mm wide and supplied in random lengths so the end joints fall naturally; one pack covers 1.44 m². All four edges carry a 4V bevel, which gives each plank a crisp outline across the room. This is a 14/3mm engineered board: 14mm from face to underside, of which the upper 3mm is real oak. Beneath it sits a multi-ply base of cross-laid layers, which resists the swelling and shrinking that solid boards can suffer as heating and humidity change. The matt lacquer protects the wood while keeping the sheen low, so the floor looks closer to bare timber.

Where it works

It suits living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms and hallways, and it can also be used in kitchens and conservatories. It can go up the stairs as well, finished with matching stair nosing on each tread.

Fitting and underfloor heating

It is suitable for underfloor heating; see our underfloor heating flooring for other options. You can glue it down or lay it floating; the tongue and groove edges join each board to the next. Use scotia beading along the skirting to cover the small gap the floor needs to move. When you work out quantities, add around 10% for offcuts and waste.
