In a 125mm block, this Unfinished Oak herringbone gives you a bold pattern and a blank canvas for your own finish. It is a 14mm engineered floor with a 3mm real oak top layer.
The bare oak has a medium, natural tone, with its grain and character on show. After installation, you can oil, lacquer or stain the floor to create the colour and sheen you want, or match existing woodwork. Classic grade oak includes some knots and variation. The larger blocks give long runs of grain and suit bigger rooms.
Larger 125mm by 600mm blocks suit bigger rooms and open-plan spaces, where a small pattern can look fussy. The build is 14mm in total, made up of a 3mm layer of real oak over cross-laid plywood. Because the plies run in alternating directions, the blocks move far less than solid timber as the heating comes on and the seasons change. The 3mm layer is a common, practical depth for engineered oak, and a fitter can usually give it a light sand in the future. Bevels on all four edges (4V) frame each block and help the geometry stand out. Packs cover 1.2 m² each.
Use it through the main living spaces, bedrooms, the hallway, kitchen and conservatory, and on stairs. It is not waterproof, so in kitchens wipe up spills quickly. In a hallway the zigzag leads you through the house; in a dining room it frames the table. Browse our engineered oak herringbone floors to see it next to other colours. For a staircase, pair it with our stair nosing for a neat edge on every tread.
Fit it with tongue and groove joints, either floating on a suitable underlay or fully glued down. Our flooring underlay range covers floating installations. Because it is supplied unfinished, plan for oiling, lacquering or staining once it is laid. Order about 10% more than the measured area to allow for cuts at the edges. It is suitable for underfloor heating; see our underfloor heating flooring for more options. Matching scotia beading neatens the join at the skirting.
A sample shows you the true tone and finish of Unfinished Oak in your own daylight and lamp light. Pick up to 3 large free samples to compare side by side.
This product features a Tongue & Groove installation system. It can be floated over an underlay or fully bonded to the subfloor.
