The 18mm Unfinished Oak herringbone is the heavier raw option, with 4mm of real oak on top and 90mm blocks. It comes bare, ready for the finish you choose.
Untreated, the oak has a medium natural tone with visible grain and character. After fitting, it can be oiled, lacquered or stained, so the floor can match existing joinery or take a colour of your own. Classic grade oak includes some knots and variation. The thicker top layer gives more room for finishing and refinishing work.
The 90 x 400mm block is a classic herringbone size that works in small rooms and open-plan spaces alike. Under the 4mm real oak surface sits a multi-ply base, bringing each block to 18mm in total. Engineering the board this way keeps it flatter and more stable than a solid block of the same size. A 4mm top layer leaves a good depth of oak for sanding and refinishing later on. A 4V bevel puts a small chamfer on all four edges, so every block is outlined and the pattern reads crisply. Each pack covers 1.44 m².
Herringbone runs well from room to room, so it can link a hall, kitchen and living space in one pattern. It is listed for kitchens, conservatories, hallways, bedrooms, dining rooms and living rooms, as well as stairs. For a staircase, pair it with our stair nosing for a neat edge on every tread. Browse our herringbone floors in engineered wood to see it next to other colours. Kitchens are fine as long as spills are wiped up, because real oak is not waterproof.
Fit it with tongue and groove joints, either floating on a suitable underlay or fully glued down. Our flooring underlay range covers floating installations. Underfloor heating is fine with this floor; browse more underfloor heating flooring if you are comparing. Because it is supplied unfinished, plan for oiling, lacquering or staining once it is laid. Herringbone involves more cutting than a straight plank floor, so add about 10% to your measured area for cuts and waste. Finish the edges with scotia beading.

This product features a Tongue & Groove installation system. It can be floated over an underlay or fully bonded to the subfloor.
