Black Knight Distressed Oak 220mm Engineered Plank

Black Knight Distressed Oak is a very dark, near-black, distressed engineered plank that makes a clear statement. Wide 220mm boards in 2200mm lengths give the colour room to breathe, and a hardwax oil finish keeps the surface natural to the touch.

Look and character

The colour is a deep charcoal black, with the oak grain and distressed marks showing as subtle texture and slightly lighter streaks. Distressing gives the face an aged, worked surface, so it looks less like a painted floor and more like old timber that has darkened with time. The hardwax oil gives a low sheen that avoids the flat, dead look some dark floors have. Black floors are bold: they suit large, bright rooms, industrial and contemporary schemes, and white or pale grey walls that throw the boards into contrast. Expect light dust and footprints to show more than on a mid-tone floor.

Construction and specification

Each plank is 15mm deep, with a 4mm real oak top layer bonded to the core. The core is multi-ply, with layers running in opposite directions so the board stays flat through the seasons. Boards are 2200mm long and 220mm wide, with 2.904 m² in every pack. All four edges carry a 4V bevel, which gives each plank a crisp outline across the room. Hardwax oil soaks into the wood and hardens near the surface, combining a natural feel with good resistance to everyday wear.

Living and dining rooms, bedrooms, hallways, kitchens and conservatories are all good places for it. It can go up the stairs as well, finished with matching stair nosing on each tread.

Fitting and underfloor heating

This floor is suitable for underfloor heating, and you can compare it with the rest of our underfloor heating flooring. Fitting is tongue and groove, either as a floating floor over a good underlay or fully glued to the subfloor. Around the edges, scotia beading neatly hides the expansion gap left at the skirting. Add about 10% to your room size for cuts and waste.
