Ranch Distressed Oak 220mm Engineered Plank

Ranch Distressed Oak is a wide, weathered engineered plank with the feel of an old ranch-house floor. Boards 220mm wide and 2200mm long from our New York range carry a distressed surface under hardwax oil.

Look and character

The colour is a mid, sun-weathered brown, lighter and drier-looking than the darker distressed shades in the range. Distressing adds scrapes, dents and worn edges that make each board look well travelled, and the hardwax oil gives a matt, natural surface you can feel. On a wide plank those marks have space to show, so the texture reads clearly across a room. It suits relaxed, rustic interiors, open-plan kitchens with timber and stone, and homes where a floor should look better for a little wear, as minor scratches tend to blend into the distressed finish.

Construction and specification

Each pack holds 2.904 m² of 220mm wide planks, 2200mm in length. The 4V bevel runs round every edge, adding definition and a slightly more rustic, board-by-board look. Each plank is 15mm deep, with a 4mm real oak top layer bonded to the core. Under the face is a cross-bonded multi-ply core, which is what lets an engineered plank cope with central heating better than a solid board of the same size. There is enough wood in a 4mm top layer to sand and refinish it more than once. Hardwax oil protects from within the wood rather than as a film on top, and worn areas can be re-oiled locally.

Where it works

Living and dining rooms, bedrooms, hallways, kitchens and conservatories are all good places for it. For stairs, pair it with stair nosing so each step has a clean, safe edge.

Fitting and underfloor heating

It can be laid over underfloor heating; more choices are in our underfloor heating flooring collection. It is a tongue and groove board that can be glued down or floated over underlay, depending on your subfloor. For a floating installation, choose a flooring underlay that matches your subfloor. When you work out quantities, add around 10% for offcuts and waste.
