Double Smoked Oak 150mm Solid Plank

Double Smoked Oak is a dark, dramatic solid oak floor in wide 150mm planks. The oak is smoked to deepen its colour, then brushed and UV lacquered, giving an 18mm board with rich tone and a fine texture.

Look and character

Smoking reacts with the natural tannins in oak and darkens the wood itself rather than just staining the surface, and the double smoked colour takes that further for a deep, moody tone. Brushing lifts the grain so it still shows through the dark colour, and the UV lacquer gives a protective, easy-care surface. The wide boards and random lengths keep the floor calm despite its depth of colour. It looks its best with plenty of light: white or soft grey walls, brass fittings and pale upholstery.

Construction and specification

At 18mm, this is a substantial solid oak floor. Every plank is real oak all the way through, which is the key difference from engineered flooring: when the surface eventually shows wear, it can be sanded and refinished again, and more times than an engineered board allows. The planks measure 150mm across in random lengths, and a pack covers 1.44 m².

Where it works

It is a floor for the main living spaces: lounges, dining rooms, bedrooms, hallways and conservatories, plus stairs with a matching stair nosing. As with any solid wood, keep it out of wet rooms. You can compare it with the rest of our solid oak plank floors.

Fitting

There are three ways to lay it: tongue and groove, glue down or nail down. Your fitter will choose based on the subfloor and the room. Allow roughly 10% extra for cuts and waste. Around the edges, scotia beading covers the expansion gap neatly. For underfloor heating, please check with us and we will confirm before you order.
