Espresso Oak is a very dark brown herringbone, named for the colour of strong coffee. The 90mm blocks have a 4mm real oak top layer on a 15mm multi-ply build.
The tone is dark brown, deep and rich, with the grain showing through as slightly lighter lines. A lacquered finish seals the colour and makes the floor simple to clean. Classic grade oak gives some knots and natural variation, which adds depth to such a strong colour. Espresso works with crisp white walls, brass fittings and velvet or leather furniture, and it makes a herringbone pattern stand out.
The build is 15mm in total, made up of a 4mm layer of real oak over cross-laid plywood. A multi-ply base gives a more stable floor than solid oak of the same look, and that matters in a pattern where every joint is on show. 4mm of real oak is a generous figure for engineered flooring and allows for future refinishing. At 90mm wide and 400mm long, the blocks sit in the middle of the herringbone range: detailed enough to look like parquet, broad enough to show the grain. A 4V bevel puts a small chamfer on all four edges, so every block is outlined and the pattern reads crisply. A pack covers 1.872 m² of floor.
Herringbone runs well from room to room, so it can link a hall, kitchen and living space in one pattern. You can lay it in hallways, living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, conservatories and kitchens, and carry it on up the stairs. In a kitchen, mop up spills promptly, as real oak is not waterproof. If you are continuing up the stairs, choose matching stair nosing for the tread edges. Compare other engineered herringbone floors to weigh up sizes and colours.
The tongue and groove blocks can be floated or glued down, depending on your subfloor. Our flooring underlay range covers floating installations. It can be used over underfloor heating, and you'll find other options in our underfloor heating flooring collection. Matching scotia beading neatens the join at the skirting. Order about 10% more than the measured area to allow for cuts at the edges.
A sample shows you the true tone and finish of Espresso Oak in your own daylight and lamp light. Pick up to 3 large free samples to compare side by side.
This product features a Tongue & Groove installation system. It can be floated over an underlay or fully bonded to the subfloor.
