This Natural Oak herringbone uses larger 125mm blocks, which give a bolder zigzag and long runs of grain. It is a 14mm engineered floor with a 3mm real oak top layer.
The colour is medium natural oak, warm and unstained. A brushed matt lacquered finish gives the surface soft texture and a low sheen while protecting it. Classic grade oak shows some knots and variation. The combination of a natural tone and a large block suits open-plan spaces and bigger living rooms, where a small pattern could look busy.
The 14/3mm figures describe two parts of the same block: 14mm is the full thickness, and 3mm of that is the real oak top layer you see and walk on. Because the plies run in alternating directions, the blocks move far less than solid timber as the heating comes on and the seasons change. 3mm of real oak gives you the grain and feel of timber, with scope for a careful professional sand later on. At 125 x 600mm, each block shows a good run of grain, so the herringbone reads as confident rather than busy. The 4V bevelled edges give each block a fine shadow line on all four sides. One pack lays 1.2 m².
You can lay it in hallways, living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, conservatories and kitchens, and carry it on up the stairs. On stairs, finish each tread with stair nosing. In a hallway the zigzag leads you through the house; in a dining room it frames the table. Like any real oak floor it isn't waterproof, so keep standing water off it in the kitchen. Compare other herringbone floors in engineered wood to weigh up sizes and colours.
Installation is tongue and groove, and your fitter can choose a floating or glue-down method. A floating installation needs a good flooring underlay underneath. It is suitable for underfloor heating; see our underfloor heating flooring for more options. Add around 10% to the room size to cover cuts and waste. Matching scotia beading neatens the join at the skirting.
A sample shows you the true tone and finish of Natural Oak in your own daylight and lamp light. Pick up to 3 large free samples to compare side by side.
This product features a Tongue & Groove installation system. It can be floated over an underlay or fully bonded to the subfloor.
