Scandi Oak 80mm Engineered Herringbone

Scandi Oak is a pale, airy oak in the small 80mm blocks of older parquet floors. The blocks are 18mm thick with a 3mm real oak top layer, brushed and finished in a matt lacquer.

Look and character

The tone is light, soft natural oak, close to raw timber, with gentle variation from block to block. Brushing brings out the grain and the matt lacquer keeps the sheen low, so the floor looks natural rather than shiny. Classic grade oak has small knots and natural variation, which stops a pale floor from looking flat. It brightens north-facing rooms and suits white walls, light joinery and simple Scandinavian-style furnishings.

Construction and specification

At 80mm wide and 300mm long, these are compact blocks with the close-set look of traditional parquet. The 18/3mm figures describe two parts of the same block: 18mm is the full thickness, and 3mm of that is the real oak top layer you see and walk on. The multi-ply engineered core keeps the floor steady when the air in the room gets drier or more humid through the year. A 3mm oak layer can be lightly sanded and refinished by a professional if the surface ever needs refreshing. A 4V bevel puts a small chamfer on all four edges, so every block is outlined and the pattern reads crisply. Each pack covers 1.44 m².

Where it works

You can lay it in hallways, living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, conservatories and kitchens, and carry it on up the stairs. Kitchens are fine as long as spills are wiped up, because real oak is not waterproof. Fitting and underfloor heating

Fit it with tongue and groove joints, either floating on a suitable underlay or fully glued down. Our flooring underlay range covers floating installations. It is suitable for underfloor heating. Finish the edges with scotia beading. Order about 10% more than the measured area to allow for cuts at the edges.
