Description

Unfinished Oak from our Raw range is a blank canvas: a 190mm engineered plank supplied without any factory finish, so you choose the colour and sheen yourself. It is built on a 20mm board with a 4mm real oak top layer.

Look and character

Out of the pack, the boards show the pale, fresh colour of newly cut oak, with Classic grade selection giving small knots and gentle variation. Once laid, you or your fitter can apply a clear oil for a natural look, a white or smoked oil, a stain or a lacquer, so the final floor can match anything from a pale Scandinavian scheme to a deep period colour. Every finish changes the colour of the wood, so test your chosen product on a sample board first.

Construction and specification

A 20/4mm build means 20mm in total, with 4mm of real oak forming the surface you walk on. The core is multi-ply, with layers running in opposite directions so the board stays flat through the seasons. Planks measure 190mm wide by 1900mm long, and each pack covers 1.805 m². A small bevel on all four edges (4V) outlines every board, so the planks read individually and minor height differences are hidden. It arrives unfinished, so it must be oiled, lacquered or stained on site after fitting.

Where it works

It is at home in hallways, living rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms, and works in kitchens and conservatories with a little care. For stairs, pair it with stair nosing so each step has a clean, safe edge.

Fitting and underfloor heating

Fitting is tongue and groove, either as a floating floor over a good underlay or fully glued to the subfloor. Allow roughly 10% extra on top of your measured area for cutting and waste. For a floating installation, choose a flooring underlay that matches your subfloor. It is suitable for underfloor heating; see our underfloor heating flooring for other options.

Why order a large free sample

You can order up to 3 large free samples. Pale oak shifts between warm and cool depending on the light, so it is worth seeing a board in your own room.

Installation Guide

This product features a Tongue & Groove installation system. It can be floated over an underlay or fully bonded to the subfloor.

  • Acclimatise packs for 48 hours before installation
  • Ensure subfloor is dry, level and clean
  • Leave 10mm expansion gap around the perimeter

A fantastic option if you want a floor that feels completely personal. The unfinished surface gives you the chance to match it perfectly with your interior style.

This went into a big open plan room and the wide boards were definitely the right call. There are fewer breaks across the floor and everything looks much calmer.
