Unfinished Oak 260mm Engineered Plank

The Raw XL Unfinished Oak takes the blank-canvas idea to a larger scale. Its 260mm wide, 2200mm long engineered planks arrive unfinished, ready for the oil, lacquer or stain of your choice.

Look and character

Untreated oak is pale and fresh, and on an extra-wide board you see long, uninterrupted runs of grain. Classic grade keeps knots small, so the width looks clean and generous. Because the finish is applied on site, the final colour and sheen are up to you: a clear matt oil for a raw look, a tinted oil for grey, white or smoked effects, or a hard-wearing lacquer. It suits large rooms and open-plan spaces, and projects where the floor needs to match joinery or furniture exactly.

Construction and specification

A 20/4mm build means 20mm in total, with 4mm of real oak forming the surface you walk on. Beneath it sits a multi-ply base of cross-laid layers, which resists the swelling and shrinking that solid boards can suffer as heating and humidity change. Planks measure 260mm wide by 2200mm long, and each pack covers 2.86 m². Such a wide board shows off the grain of each piece and keeps joints to a minimum. The 4V bevel runs round every edge, adding definition and a slightly more rustic, board-by-board look. Because it is supplied raw, you choose and apply the finish yourself once it is laid.

Where it works

It suits living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms and hallways, and it can also be used in kitchens and conservatories. For stairs, pair it with stair nosing so each step has a clean, safe edge. Its pale colour works with Scandinavian, coastal and minimalist schemes.

Fitting and underfloor heating

The boards join with a tongue and groove and can be laid floating over underlay or glued down to a prepared subfloor. When you work out quantities, add around 10% for offcuts and waste.
