Natural Oiled Oak is a 90mm herringbone with a warm, oiled look and a brushed texture. The engineered blocks have a 3mm real oak top layer on a 14mm multi-ply base.
The colour is medium natural oak, warm and unstained. The brushed and UV oiled finish gives a subtle texture and a natural matt look, with the grain easy to see. Classic grade oak shows some knots and variation from block to block. It is a floor that fits in almost anywhere, from Victorian terraces to new-build open-plan living.
In 14/3mm terms, 14mm is how thick the whole block is and 3mm is the depth of real oak on its face. 3mm of real oak gives you the grain and feel of timber, with scope for a careful professional sand later on. Engineering the board this way keeps it flatter and more stable than a solid block of the same size. A 90mm width with a 450mm length gives a balanced zigzag, less busy than small-block parquet and less bold than the wide formats. The 4V bevelled edges give each block a fine shadow line on all four sides. A pack covers 1.944 m² of floor.
Use it through the main living spaces, bedrooms, the hallway, kitchen and conservatory, and on stairs. If you are continuing up the stairs, choose matching stair nosing for the tread edges. Start the pattern from the room's main sight line, often the doorway, so the zigzag runs where it is seen most. In a kitchen, mop up spills promptly, as real oak is not waterproof. Compare other engineered herringbone floors to weigh up sizes and colours.
Fit it with tongue and groove joints, either floating on a suitable underlay or fully glued down. For a floating fit, start with the right underlay for wood floors. Allow roughly 10% extra for cutting and waste when you work out how many packs you need.
