Owlet Oak 12mm Laminate

Owlet Oak is a dark grey laminate from our Cambridge range, with a moody, modern character. The deep colour and oak-style grain give a strong, grounded floor on a 12mm, AC5-rated plank.

Look and character

The colour is a dark grey with oak grain showing through, deeper than a mid grey and closer to charcoal in low light. It creates strong contrast with white walls and pale furniture, and suits modern, industrial and monochrome schemes. The textured and embossed surface gives the planks a natural grain, and bevels frame each board. Warm lighting, wood furniture and soft textiles stop a dark grey from feeling cold. Like all dark floors, it shows dust more readily than a mid tone.

Construction and specification

The 12mm build has real body to it, so the floor feels steady when you walk across it and sounds less hollow once laid over a good underlay. AC5 is the highest wear class you will usually see on laminate, rated for heavy commercial traffic, which gives plenty of headroom in a busy home. Packs cover 1.35 m² each, so round up to the next full pack. With planks of 188mm by 1195mm, the floor has a familiar, well-balanced board size. The 4V bevel on every edge makes each plank stand out slightly from its neighbours, which adds realism.

Where it works

Use it in kitchens, dining rooms, conservatories, living rooms, bedrooms, hallways and bathrooms. In hallways, a doormat at the entrance catches grit before it reaches the floor. Fitting and underfloor heating

It is a click-fit laminate laid floating: the planks lock to each other rather than being fixed to the subfloor below. Lay it over a suitable flooring underlay, which smooths out small bumps and softens footfall noise. Allow roughly 10% extra on top of the floor area for cuts and waste.
