Antique Smoked Oak 190mm Engineered Plank

Antique Smoked Oak brings the deep, brown-grey colour of smoked timber to a 190mm Nevada engineered plank. The oiled finish keeps it matt and natural, so the floor looks rich without looking glossy.

Look and character

Smoked oak is darkened into the wood rather than just on the surface, giving a brown with cooler, smoky undertones. The antique character adds depth, so boards vary from mid to dark and the grain shows as darker streaks through the colour. As a Classic grade oak it keeps knots modest, so the overall effect is calm rather than rugged. The oiled surface has almost no shine, which suits the dark tone: it looks soft in lamplight and never mirror-like. Pair it with pale walls, linen and brass, or go darker for a snug, library feel.

Construction and specification

The board is 14mm thick overall, and the top 3mm is real oak. The core is multi-ply, with layers running in opposite directions so the board stays flat through the seasons. Each pack holds 2.888 m² of 190mm wide planks, 1900mm in length. The 4V bevel runs round every edge, adding definition and a slightly more rustic, board-by-board look. An oiled finish soaks into the wood rather than sitting on top, and worn patches can be re-oiled locally instead of refinishing the whole floor.

Where it works

Dark boards create a cosy, enclosed feel in the evening and a strong contrast by day. You can run it from the hallway into living and dining rooms, and use it in bedrooms, kitchens and conservatories too. Carrying the floor up the staircase is possible; use stair nosing to finish the tread edges neatly.

Fitting and underfloor heating

It is a tongue and groove board that can be glued down or floated over underlay, depending on your subfloor. Around the edges, scotia beading neatly hides the expansion gap left at the skirting.
