Glue-down LVT herringbone: slim, waterproof vinyl blocks bonded to the subfloor in the classic zigzag. It gives a crisp, tight pattern that suits kitchens, hallways, bathrooms and commercial spaces where parquet style meets heavy use.
Yes. Luxury vinyl tiles and planks are made from vinyl layers, so the boards themselves are not damaged by water. That makes them a good choice for bathrooms, kitchens and utility rooms. Seal the edges with a suitable sealant in bathrooms and wipe up standing water, so it cannot get beneath the floor.
The slim 76mm blocks give the most traditional, detailed pattern and suit period homes and smaller rooms. The 95mm blocks are a versatile classic. The 150mm by 750mm blocks create a bold, modern zigzag with fewer joints, ideal for large open-plan spaces.
Glue-down LVT is widely used in shops, offices and restaurants because it is waterproof, stable and hard-wearing, and a damaged block can be lifted and replaced individually. Our herringbone designs have wear layers of 0.55mm or 0.7mm; the 0.7mm options are best for high footfall.
Allow 10% extra for herringbone. Every row ends in an angled cut at the wall, and those offcuts are rarely reusable. Complex rooms with lots of corners and doorways may need a little more. It is also worth keeping a few spare blocks for future repairs.
The herringbone designs are 2.5mm or 3mm thick, in wood effects from pale and natural tones to deeper browns. There are three block sizes: slender 76mm by 457mm blocks for a traditional, fine pattern; 95mm by 380mm blocks for a classic look; and broad 150mm by 750mm blocks for a bold, contemporary zigzag.
Wear layers are 0.55mm or 0.7mm, both suited to busy homes, with 0.7mm the choice for heavy traffic and commercial use. Because the blocks are glued, the pattern stays tight and there are no clicking joints to flex, which makes glue-down the best way to achieve a fine herringbone in vinyl. The thin profile also sits neatly against tiles and other hard floors at doorways.
The subfloor needs to be smooth and level, and fitting is usually done by a professional who will set the pattern out from a centre line. Allow 10% extra for waste. All blocks are waterproof, so they work in bathrooms and kitchens. Some designs are confirmed for underfloor heating in their spec.
